       Antiques
       
       So may tables
       Packed in one room
       Set with unmatching services
       By an old maid
       From what she remembers.
       
       She has placed
       Parrots and parasols
       In the embarrassed laps of chairs
       And tipped out trinkets
       Like a child dressing up.
       
       This anteroom
       Was as far as she
       Could bring the furniture,
       Her employers
       Traveling on.
       
       Her carelessness shows
       They'll not be back
       Demanding old arrangements.
       Faces tight
       The clocks have stopped.
       
       
       The Window
       
       Each morning at this time
       The light begins
       Its hopeful travel,
       Giving us below
       A sense of moving
       To our destination.
       We look up at those we follow
       Guessing their conversation and
       their names.
       
       There are Lords and poor men,
       Ladies with lilies,
       Conquerors in armour
       and tiny hill-top cities.
       From behind the head
       Of her child the crescent smile
       Of the madonna is like
